Though they are the closest grocery store to our home, we have recently stopped shopping at Publix (00897). The cause was the Bakery. We figured that if we could not trust the Bakery (Publix branding) then we should not trust them store wide.
Situations:
1. They have a delicious 'special' cakes. They now cost 24.99. The is $5.00 increase in cost within the past year and the cakes are now much, much smaller then they were orginally... Some of them are about the size of a large cup cake (7" cakes for 25.00?). We pay $3 more at another bakery, but the cakes are 12", moister, more frosting, more layers, etc.
2. We tried two of thier coconut pies for a small get together we were having, the cream filling was very good, so were the crust and whip creame. One problem, there was no coconut in either pie.
3. We tried a Butter Creame Cake birthday cake ($16.99) and the frosting was so thin (not even the thickness of a dime) and dry that it was not even worth eating. We threw it away.
Though we have shopped at Publix for years, we have now left until they get their act together and begin to once again to put their customers first. They need to examine their their pricing structure and be more careful in preparing their products; indeed give their customers portions of value instead of making the customer feel ripped off. We cannot even get their management to carry all the products we perfer.
