I fixed a poor design in my Ashley recliner. I purchased this at a local furniture store in a warehouse type display area. The chair worked fine on bare floor. On carpet the front section of the user leg rest hit the floor and stopped the movement of the user leg rest.
The chair was approx. 1/2 inch too low to allow the leg rest to move without restriction when sitting in it. Getting out of the chair required moving forward enough to clear the leg rest to establish balance when standing, not just standing up directly from the chair. Then, after standing, the leg rest had to be manually moved into the proper folded position by pushing it with a foot.
The customer service contact gave me no help in resolving this issue. I requested something like taller legs or spacers. According to the customer service person there was nothing that could be offered to me to resolve my situation.
I made 1/2 inch spacers and installed them between the chair and the chair leg. It works fine now. I was very disappointed in the help I received. I diagnosed and fixed this poor product design on this brand new product. My wife had the impression Ashley had a quality reputation, which is part of the reason we purchased it. I didn’t have any prior familiarity with Ashley, but so far, I obviously don’t have a good impression. I can see from other reviews I wasn’t alone. I contacted them both on email and with a mailed letter direct to the president. I got a response from the same Customer Service person. She must be busy sending letters that say ‘sorry, nothing we can do’. I would avoid buying anything from them again.
