Dan Mead Deceptive Trade Practices & Bad Faith of cell phone insurance claims

I have an account with Verizon Wireless and I thought I was with one of the most professional cell phone providers in the nation. I also thought that their customer service was top notch but recently I had an issue come up that has really pissed me off.

I have 2 cell phones and 1 internet hotspot on my account and I pay them around $280 a month which is almost a car payment. When I bought the devices I had insurance on my existing phones with another provider and no insurance on my internet device which was also with my previous provider. I was switching to Verizon Wireless and informed the representative at the corporate store that I wanted 2 phones and a Mifi Internet device.

I also informed the rep that I wanted insurance on the phones but did not need it on the internet device. This was very clear between myself and this rep. I assumed all was good and I purchased the phones and began using them. I purchased a droid charge and my wife got an iphone 4. We used these phones for about a year and a half.

I recently dropped my phone in a puddle of water and it began malfunctioning. I dried the phone out for 2 days to try to save it as I did not want to file a claim. After a few days of getting the phone to power back on I realized that the phone was not going to make it as the buttons were not working properly.

This is where the issue came up, I went to file a claim and found out that the insurance was placed on my wife's phone and the internet device. It was not placed on my $650 Droid Charge Samsung phone according to Verizon. When I called to complain and get this straightened out I was told that it was my fault for not catching this. I informed them that I do not review the 6 page cell phone bill unless it is more than the normal $280 a month and I did not realize that the insurance was placed on the wrong device. They admitted to placing it on the wrong device but never took responsibility for the issue.

After several 45 minute phone calls and waiting on hold for 15-25 minutes everytime you want to speak with a supervisor I decided to contact Dan Mead's office. This office took all my information and offered me a used/refurbished phone for $99.00. I glanced at this phone from the website and decided that it may work as it looked very similar to my droid. I also agreed to this because it was now 2 weeks and they had not offered a resolution anywhere close to this.

Upon receiving the phone I quickly realized that this phone is much smaller than the droid, the buttons are very small, the screen is unresponsive and/or defective, and it is not a 4G phone. The camera is very poor quality and will not scan VIN barcodes which is part of my job.

I feel that this was their way of covering up the bad faith of issuing an insurance policy on the wrong device. My option at this point is to begin the 25-45 minute phone calls with customer service (which is nothing short of horrible and useless) or contact ripoff report as I feel that I have been ripped off by Dan Mead's office!

I need this resolved, this phone I was sent is defective and is not even manufactured anymore. I have not seen it in any stores and I can't find a case or a car charger for it. I am extremely dissatisfied with Verizon Wireless.
