I have been a customer with T-Mobile since 2005 with up to 5 lines of service. Less than two years ago I moved to an area that has very limited T-Mobile coverage and no T-Mobile stores. A few months ago I contacted customer service to find out when my contract and was told that 4 lines were no longer under contract and the 5th line contract would expire on May 13th. After this expiration passed I set up new service with a different carrier. All was well.
Today I called T-Mobile to get my final bill only to find out that I was being charged an early termination fee for 5 lines ($1000.00) and that I would have to pay the full amount of my monthly bill through the end of the month, even though the numbers had been ported over on May 21st (being charged for services not rendered). I was furious.
After much wasted time and near heart failure, I discovered that they had made an error and, on May 13th had renewed my contract for two years. They had made a huge mistake. They removed the early termination charges for 4 lines that were not under contract, however, I was still going to be charged for service on these lines through the end of the month. On the fifth line, the representative I spoke with earlier had been mistaken — the contract did not expire until 8/13. This representative's "oops" cost me an early termination fee. They assured me that they "will be checking into this".
This is not the first time T-Mobile has tried to jack me. I strongly recommend that you stay away from T-Mobile — I certainly will not use them again. However, if you do choose T-Mobile, just don't bend over... You will get screwed!
