I applied to Consumer Cellular for cell phoe service. When I got to supplying my Social Security Number, it said they couldn't identify me. After a few tries like that it then denied me service based on a bad credit report from Equifax. I checked with Equifax and there is nothing wrong with my credit report other than monthly inquiries into my credit by CITIBANK. I do not owe anything to CITIBANK, have no account with them and have not applied to them. CITIBANK does send me credit applications almost weekly. I rip them up and throw them in the trash. I have only one creditor, a credit card with a $50,000 limit. I owe less than $600 on it and that will be paid off in the next billing period in full. Never been late either. Obviously something is very screwed up about Consumer Cellular's credit approval system. If they can't handle something that simple, you don't want to be doing business with them. I have heard many reports they double bill, bait and switch and do many other unethical things to their customers. Glad I didn't get service with them. I think I found better.in retrospect I should have declined giving my SSN to Consumer. They have no right to it and my good old SS Card clearly states, "Not to be used for identification."
