On Thanksgiving day 11/26/09 my mom and I stood outside Office Depot from 8:30pm to 6:00am on 11/27/09. Not to mention the almost two hour wait in line at the register. They were offering a Office Depot Exclusive deal for a HP Laptop 15.6 screen, 3GB memory, 250 Hard drive, intel Celeron proccessor, up to 3 hrs and 45 min battery life, windows 7 home premium 64-bit, intel GMA 4500M graphics, Altec Lansing audio, HDMI port, intergrated numeriv keypad and webcam with micro phone, wireless B/G networking. This was the best deal found. So we thought.
We were the twelfth people to walk through the door. We purchased what we thought was the computer advertised. The transaction went through we bought a extended warranty and the rep that helped gave us two rebate forms he said one was a duplicate. Being that we were so tired we did not look at it just took his word that it was a duplicate. It wasn't until we got home at 5:30 that night that we looked at our receipts and saw noticed one was a for a 50.00 rebate and the other was for a webcam. My mom and I jumped in our cars and went up there we spoke to a manager named Crystal who was very un-helpful she said they realized the issue and that's why they offered an external webcam. She first lied to us and said it was HP's fault and we need to talk to them and they are open 24hrs. I told her to contact them and 20 mins went by and I asked her what happened to calling HP she said "oh I was mis informed and it was our fault and if you can wait 10 mins for our computer guy Justin to get back we can find something comparable but I have to get approval from the store manager" we waited and Justin came back, after over a hour waiting he came back and told us he found two that were comparable but they were used he said they did not have anything in stock. That was lie #2, a customer that heard the whole situation offered to call the store and act like they wanted to buy one of the comparable units. He called and they had plenty in stock. So we went back to Justin and said we know you have the computers he said let me check the back, he came right back and said they have them brand new. After yet another 40 mins waiting Crystal finally called the store manager Chris Wagner.in her conversation she did not stress to him anything she was very vague and she started her conversation off to Chris by saying she new he wasn't going to do it but she told the customer she'd call. I asked her to speak to him and she ignored me I asked several times. She again lied and said she didn't hear me. Crystal said Chris said he will not accommodate us and too bad our only option was to return it and deal with it. She was so full of lies she could not look at me in the face the whole time. She also lied about their being a manager in the back when we asked to speak to that manager she said she was the only one there and lied again and said she never told us that. Well at this time another one of their customers heard the whole conversation and gave me his information because he heard their consistent lies.
They falsely advertised the computer I received had a built in micro phone but no webcam. One of their manager helped us with he purchase and they lied and said the other rebate was a duplicate they never disclosed that we were not purchasing what we were there for. THEY NEW THEY SCAMMED US! We stood in line for hours and they re-fuse to accommodate us I bought these for my kids that are young and an external webcam will not do and that is not what I paid for. Again we stood in line over 12 hours and the managers and this store were not willing to put customer service ahead of their scam. They knew this was a great deal and they new it was a scam. Others were offering deals and I stood in their line because they had the best deal. I do not have more money to pay more for two laptops. I anticipated this sale I waited all year for a deal like this and they scammed us they falsely advertised and are not willing to make things right. For many this is not a big deal for me it is a deal breaker I need two Laptops that have a integrated webcam with the majority of the features. My two kids will be without a computer unless I can find a great deal I do not have the money to pay more which is what they offered. I checked their Black Friday ad and they changed it it now has a totally different computer description and the photo no longer has a webcam. I still have my original paper that shows what we thought we purchased.
