My husband wanted to switch to Dish network from Directv. We called a number on a flyer which featured what sounded like a wonderful offer. We were supposed to get a voucher for free gas; our choice of prizes - we chose a digital camera; a free subscription to TV Guide; and the 1st, 10th, and 19th months of our service were supposed to be free.
A month passed, and we got a letter saying that we were "not qualified" to receive the gas voucher and the digital camera. The TV Guide came for a few months, and then we started getting cards and calls to renew the subscription. We never even opened the cover of any of the magazines, as we were too busy to read them; plus, we can see what's coming on just by looking a the program guide on the screen.
About 8 months into the service, we started getting calls from Dish Network that our bill was past due. After several calls to Dish customer service, it was ascertained that the claim of the free first month's service was also a lie! We'd been on autopay, but had been running a month behind on our payments the whole time.
This is not the end - this is just the beginning. The Attorney General for the state of Florida will be notified about this scam that preys upon the public.
