I purchased a Sharp Model R-520D Microwave Oven in May. Called my local "authorized" repair person and found that there is a one year warranty on parts and labor and 5 years on the magnetron. The appliance is 20 months old. The repair shop will estimate the cost for $20 and then charge extra for labor and materials. A call to Sharp customer service was useless in that I was told it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do.
I understand the concept of a warranty and also realize there must be a time limit, but one should expect at least 5 - 10 trouble-free years from an appliance not just 20 MONTHS.
Sharp is obviously manufacturing an inferior product and will not go the extra mile for customer satisfaction. BEWARE!!! Should be avoided.
