We are self-employed. Money was tight and we let dishnetwork account lapse. We didn't think that it would be a problem.
We were going to pay the bill as soon as the money was available for it.
I made a deposit in the bank and started paying my bills. After i had already paid most of my bills i checked my account, and dishnetwork had taken out an EFT for $500 for their unreturned equipment. I also received boxes on the same day as the EFT.
We never received any notice saying they were going to do this.
The charge put me in a SERIOUS negative balance of $675, since i had also paid most of my bills, and now had overdraft charges.
I tried to resolve the situation with dishnetwork and got nothing but the runaround with them. They said either return the boxes or pay the balance due and they would refund the rest to my bank.
I chose to pay the past due amount. The balace of the $500 still hasn't been put in my account.
I could not find in our contract anywhere that said they can do this. When called to find out where it was in the contract nobody could tell me. Everytime I asked they told me it was in a different contract.
I requested a copy of the contract. They said they had to get permission, they wouldn't say from who, to send the contract. Then they told me that it would be 4-6 weeks before i could receive my copy. They shouldn't be allowed to do this to people
