Office Max
Going out of Business SWITCH-a-ROO

I was in the process of opening a Kitchen/Bath showroom here in NJ, about a year and a half ago, when I decided to go to an Office Max located in Watchung, NJ. It was going out of business, so I, as did many others, go there to get some good deals on whatever items they had left in stock. I purchased a Canon ICD880 printer/copier/fax for $500 which it normally goes for $700. I felt I got a good deal. It was one of those that was on the shelf, but I didn't mind because the sales person showed me the package with all of the literature and accessories that came with it. I bought it and then brought it home.

Here it is, a year and a half later and my showroom is finally finished and open. I kept the printer at my home because I did not need it until I opened the showroom. Now that I am opened, I go to set it up, and to my surprise, there are no internal parts to this machine. I called Canon tech department and they say that Canon does not make display models, even though there is a Canon sticker on the back that says "Display model"'. I can not believe that I never saw the sticker but I put the unit down and never looked at it. Plus, the sales person never said I would spend $500 on a shell. They say that Office Max must have opened it up and removed every single piece of wire and electronic parts and put it back together. They said they could only help if it had a serial # and if it was not working. I of cours told them that it indeed was not working, because there were no moving parts!

I then called Office Max and they would not help because of the time frame of my complaint, the fact that they only put working models on their shelves, and that a liquidation company handled the closing of the store. My problem is that my receipt is from Office Max and not a liquidation company. They were brushing me off just like Canon and telling me to get a refund from the liquidation company.

I called the BBB and this was the replies I got from Office Max. I'm not sure where else to go, except for the CEO of Office Max. I just want the same printer back, even if it is reconditioned, my money back, or a brand new printer and I would pay the difference. I feel like I already spent enough money to get my showroom up and running and I don't want to spend more on items that I already bought.
