I have recently had a terrible experience with Embarq. I tried to make my usual payment of 35.00 on my local service and they refused, saying I now owe them 95.00 dollars because they decided to split my bill on a past due amount. I had already made a payment arrangement earlier to settle this account. To make this worse, they said, "well you broke your arrangement". I do not honestly recall this, and I contacted another Embarq agent who proceeded to tell me that "no, there's an error here— you're fine. Just make your regular 35.00 dollar payment". So I did, and I have continued to do so the past 3 months without any phone service termination.
Now they decide that they are going to "put their foot down" and force 95.00 dollars out of me ANYWAY. I will likely lose my service tonight or tomorrow and I am looking for alternate services in my area as I have HAD IT with Embarq. I live in a rural area so unfortunately these big phone companies have a monopoly on the little folks down here.
To make it worse— I am a disabled single mother and the only care provider for my parents— my father is terminally ill with lung cancer and my mother can barely walk.
I am trying to get a note from my physician so that they cannot terminate my service because of medical necessity but have not felt it important thus far as I thought I was just fine.
Now I am behind on my long-distance, however I have begun getting harrassing calls from West Asset Management. I am trying to get a better understanding of why I have such a horrendous long distance phone bill but cannot get any cooperation on receiving a print out.
