This specific company just appeared on my credit report with a debt supposedly incurred on July 1. They are actually reporting debts from 1996. They have violated the laws in the state of California and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I applied for a mortgage and was approved based on the fact that I had brought my FICO out of the dumps from credit problems 9 years ago. Suddenly, this BS debt appeared on my credit report and dropped my FICO score by 40 points!
I have never heard of these sharks but they appear all over the internet as scammers and disreputable business people. There is an entire message board just dedicated to how these collectors have ruined credit for people nationwide by their deceptive collection practices. I have immediately reported them to the FTC and will be filing a report with the California State Attorney General's office this morning.
