There are several paperwork issues that the University of Toledo messed up:
1. I waited in a 2 hour line just to get my parking permit. I was entering their college as a junior, however it was my first year at UT so they gave me a freshmen parking permit because they said I didn't turn in my transcripts to prove my junior status, when I did. The reason it is so important to have the junior parking permit is because the freshmen are made to take a bus to a parking lot that is located a long distance away from your classes. Since I was taking a night class I didn't want to wait in the dark (unguarded) parking lot for a bus.
I told them about my circumstances and that I didn't want to walk that far. So she asked her supervisor what to do and she came back and said I was getting a freshmen permit until my transcripts went in the "system". When I persisted in complaining only then did she pull out a temporary parking permit that can be used in the junior lot. (Why didn't I get that in the first place?)
2. I signed up for a BA in Psychology. However, when I went to talk to my advisor she said I was signed up under a different degree and that I would now have to have all of my paperwork transferred to that college. Again, my transcripts were mysteriously missing.
3. Financial Aid was HELL! 6 hour lines. I kid you not. And I was the lucky one because most other people there were in 8 hour lines. So after finally getting to stand at a counter and talk to someone, she took all of my paperwork, made copies, and after a few questions later, I was on my way. So I thought.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I was almost mugged after my 6 hour line!
I asked before even starting my paperwork, "Are you sure that I will be able to get everything in order in time enough to start college this semester?" They said that they would handle it and that they do this all the time; take paperwork 1 week before college starts.
Then I got the call... After 2 weeks of classes, 6 hour line for financial aid, 2 hour line for the wrong parking permit, 2 hours to apply, 2 hours to take my picture for the student id... I got the call.
I WASN'T EVEN REGISTERED FOR CLASSES!!! Robyn, (a lady who apparently know one has ever heard of after I called her back), called me and told me that I needed to come in and finish my paperwork because I wasn't even signed up yet. That was the last straw. I said to her to forget it because I never want to go to UT ever again. She then told me that she would have to register me to be able to quit my classes. Lol
Now, I have to pay $600 for my student id that I never used, 20% of the two classes I took because I dropped them 3 days after the date of 100% return for dropped classes, and for an orientation packet which consisted of a folder with everything that the UT web site has on it for free. So now they want me to pay the $600 for a classes that I was never registered for but then she re - registered me just to stick me with the bill.
To top it all off I was told - "Well what do you expect signing up just 1 week before school started? We couldn't possibly get all of that paperwork done in time." I said, "Then why are you taking in applications when you know fully well that you cannot handle that many students entering in and get their paperwork done on time?" She said not to blame her because everyone that works there is told to sign them up.
Also, earlier I forgot to mention that I needed to call up and see why my transcripts didn't go through yet. When I called the admissions office, the girl told me that they were having a business party and that I would have to call back. Then I called financial aid to make sure everything was going through all right and I told her that I couldn't clear up the issue about my "missing transcripts" because someone in admissions said they were having a business party. She started laughing and said that there was no such party and thanked me for telling her. I didn't think it was funny and at that point was nearly in tears. Also, they were the ones that made a copy of my original transcript for me to keep since they were keeping the originals (the originals they're now claiming to not have)!!
You would not believe the students complaining that their financial aid didn't go through yet... Which means you can't buy books if you have no money coming in. University of Toledo sets them up for failure and doesn't care because they are just collecting the money. I have talked with people that have gone to Ohio State University and they said that they have never had problems like that.
I am not the only student that this has happened to. Every person I have told of my problem said that they knew someone who had the same thing happen to them and that UT is notorious for that.
I am a 4.0 Summa Cum Laude Student. I have always applied myself and made something happen even if it seemed impossible, but with the problems I've had at the University of Toledo it has made me just want to cut my losses and get out when I can. If you want peace in your life, I would never recommend going to UT!!!
