The company called "Dynamic" was advertising job opportunities on Monster.com. After filling out an online job inquiry, an employment director contacted me to let me know there were opportunities for corporate fitness instructors and nutritional counselors in the Tampa Bay, Fl area. They said they had reviewed my resume and my training and experience fit their needs.
I explained I had already finished one certification program and was in the process of completing a yoga certification program as well. My career objective was to teach yoga and provide nutritional counseling. They said I still need to take the SSL certification exam, which was required for working with their company. The said they covered the cost of the test, but the cost of the study materials was $250. The director told me I would be reimbursed this cost once I passed the exam.
I subsequently ordered the materials and sent them a check for $250. I was surprised when no books arrived, but instead I was emailed a link to the SSLeducate website where I could view the study materials. I called and complained that for $250 I had expected a hard copy. But their curt reply was that it was "clearly stated on the website" that the materials were in an electronic format. There was no recourse at that point.
I went ahead and took the exam and passed. I awaited a call from Dynamic for my "job opportunity", but heard nothing. After several weeks I contacted and inquired, asking when I would be reimbursed for the study materials. They emailed me a short reply saying only, "please see our website for reimbursement policy". Of course when I read the fine print, it indicated that reimbursement would be provided only after starting work. However, there has been no contact from the company in over a month regarding the job. It appears this was only a scam to get me to buy the so-called "study materials".
