Blunt Scam and Unethical Practices

I have a complaint against Northern Leasing Systems Inc. A couple of sales people representing Starlight Enterprises came to our store offering a list of products and services that would help increase our sales. One of these services was the sales of long distance phone cards through a credit card machine. The machine required a 4 year leasing contract with Northern Leasing Systems Inc. I signed the contract after I was explained by the sales people that the contract was transferable if I was not satisfied with the products or the services. The same sales people brought the machine in supposedly ready to use and programmed. They themselves installed and try using it for the first time.

For some reasons the machine was not working properly and the sales person personally called the support desk and try to get it to work. After being on the phone for about 45 minutes the sales person gave up and told me that the helpdesk was going to contact us the next day to reprogram the machine. Two weeks went by and no one called to get the machine to work. I decided to call the sales people and explain the issue; they said that the support department had tried to contact us but that we were unavailable. I said to them that this was not accurate; no one had called to get this resolve.

This is when we realized that something was not right. I asked the sales associate that I want out of the contract and for them to pick up their equipment. They told me then that the contract was not cancelable or transferable and that I need it to contact Northern Leasing Systems Inc to resolve any leasing issues.

Before I contacted Northern Leasing Systems Inc I decided to review the contract once again. One section of the contract explains that if within 60 days the equipment is not in proper working conditions or non functional that I have the right to cancel the lease with a 10 days writing notice before the grace period. I called Northern Leasing Systems Inc and explain the situation about the equipment not operating and never been since its installation. They responded that they will investigate the issue and that they will call me back.

Two weeks went by and no one called back from Northern Leasing Systems Inc. Within those two weeks I sent Northern Leasing Systems Inc a letter requesting the cancelation of the lease due to unsatisfactory equipment within the grace period. I had the letter shipped with a return receipt certificate to make sure they had gotten the letter. I try calling them once again after the two weeks and they responded that they were still investigating the issue and that they will call me back.

Weeks went by and no one called. Finally after about a month someone called from Northern Leasing Systems Inc requesting permission to withdraw money from our account to cover the monthly fee of the lease. I denied the permission to withdraw money and explain to them that I had sent them a letter to cancel the lease to which I have proof they had received. They then explain to me that they were just the leasing agent and had nothing to do with the operation of the equipment that it was the responsibility of the sales people. I explain to them that I was not satisfied with their service and that they had already tried to get the equipment to work and had not been successful. They then put me on hold and said that they were going to investigate the issue. After holding for a while I was hang up on.

I called them back and asked them what was there to investigate? I explain to them that I want out of the contract because I was not satisfied with the equipment and that it was non operational. They put me on hold and after waiting for about 15 minutes they hang up on me, again. I called back and again they hang up. I called once again and explain the situation and asked why I was being hanged up on. They explained that they had review the issue and that the lease could not be cancelled because they have records of a transaction that was processed on the machine. I asked them how that could have been if I have never used the machine. I requested them to fax me a copy of that record and once again I was hanged up on.

At this point I was extremely frustrated; I decided to call the sales associates at Starlight Enterprises once again. I spoke to the sales associate and explain my experience with Northern Leasing Systems Inc and she reply that she was going to contact them and that she was going to call me back that same day. I never got the call back.

I then decided to research the internet about Northern Leasing Systems Inc and I was shock to hear so many similar complaints about this company. I feel like Im on a strangle hold and cant understand how a company like this can still be doing business. I dont want to pay for non provided services or products, but I also dont want to damage our credit reputation. Please advice on what can be done about this situation.
