Tried to charge $50 for me to pay by check instead of credit card or auto bank draft!

Oh Brother, I really screwed up by getting hooked up with this company.

In a recent phonecall... I learned how crooked and rude, terribly rude, they are! To a customer!

I feel so dumb, so dumb, that I signed a contract with them. I didn't check them out before I signed the contract (I know). I had been intending to get an alarm system and this seemed like good deal b/c of their special "today only" free installation offer. Ughhh.

Anyway... Things seemed ok until I called and told them I canceled the credit card they were billing and that I'd like to get a monthly bill and write a monthly check henceforth. No big deal, right? Wrong.

Their "first line of defense" idiot told me that to change my payment method would cost a "one time only" $50 Fee!

Outrageous! I whipped out my contract and read it, and surprise! It's not in the contract. I asked them to just point out the provision where I agreed to such a fee. Eventually they acknowledged it's not in the contract. Rather, it's just a "company policy". What a crock. I told her $50 is a lot, I didn't agree to it, and I'm not paying it. She said she realized it was a lot of money and offered a stupid payment plan for the $50 I didn't owe. What a bunch of crooks.

I insisted I wouldn't pay it and asked to talk to her supervisor. She reiterated their new "policy"... When I pointed our that our contract provides they must notify me of any contract changes (with an opportunity to object) she said "Well, I'm notifying you now." What a No-No.

When I insisted I wouldn't pay it. She kept insisting that she had told me the only ways I could pay (credit card or auto bank draft). No thanks, dipwad.

Finally, she told me wasn't going to discuss it further, that I had already "wasted" a lot of their sales associates' time, and that they had "explained" it to me several times (Like I'm an idiot). That didn't go over too well:) Especially given their "committment" to customer service. More like Customer Disservice.

I told her they were breaching the contract. She said "no no" you're breaching the contract b/c you agreed to pay by credit card. Uh Uh. All it says in the contract regarding my payment method (at the top right of the first page) is "Requested Method"... With a space for (1) auto bank draft; (2) credit card; and (3) Other. Because "request", um, doesn't mean it's mandatory... I ain't gonna be bound by it. Clear, objective reading of the contract. So, this chick keeps trying to interpret the contract for me. Oh brother.

So... I told her to shoot me a bill with a real detailed description of the $50 fee. (After I received the bill, I was going to terminate the contract for their breach... Blah blah blah.

When I called later that afternoon... I learned that my $50 fee had been waived... No doubt b/c I told them to put it in writing.

I urge everyone not to pay this $50 fee if they try to impose it on you. I believe it is a bullying tactic. Unethical to say the least.

What do you all think? Has anyone gotten this $50 fee? Anyone gotten out of their contract with Plat. Protection? Who can I notify about this company?
