Kaplan University Online
Stole my money, withdrew, never refunded, promised in 6-8 weeks, now been months

Complaint / review text:
I enrolled in Kaplan University in April of this year, after first dealing with a pushy salesman who insisted that it was important that I got everything taken care of RIGHT AWAY. I processed my enrollment and sent them my tuition fee. If only I knew then the things I found out shortly thereafter.

After a kind, patient, and compassionate representative from another online school, Colorado Technical University Online, called and offered me a WAY better deal, I realized what a huge mistake I had made by letting Kaplan's Stevan Lewis push me into something so fast. I thought it would be okay because the Enrollment Agreement stated that as long as I withdrew before the first calendar day of classes, I would receive a full refund on my tuition fee, a fee of $95, which I paid online with my prepaid Visa card.

This, however, was not the case at all. After insisting that I wanted to withdraw from Kaplan, Stevan directed me to the person who handled withdraws, a Ms. Tracey Greene.

That's when everything went down the tubes because after I spoke with Tracey Greene she too tried to talk me out of withdrawing, but I insisted. She told me she wanted me to think about it over the weekend, and get back with her by e-mail or telephone on Monday, May 7th, 2007, with my final decision. I wasn't set to start classes until May 8th, so I would still beat the deadline.

I sent her the e-mail on May 7th telling her that I was sure that I wanted to withdraw and she responded the next day telling me that my refund would be processed within 6-8 weeks which would have been anywhere from June 18th to July 2nd. The date that I am writing this on is September 20th, which is coming up on 5 months since I received the e-mail.

I have continuously checked my credit card balance online since then, and I have never received the refund on my tuition fee that I paid so long ago. I feel that Kaplan not only owes me the $95, but they also owe me pain and suffering for the time that I have worried and wondered about what I was supposed to do without the money. To me, $95 is alot of money... Maybe not to Kaplan, but they should have to pay for the pain they've caused me.
