Sunset Group Fisherman's Resort & Spa ripoff dishonest fraudulent timeshare sales tactics BEWARE, Miami, Houston Quintano Roo, Florida Texas

Just returned from a wonderful vacation in Playa del Carmen Mexico. While shopping with my wife and kids, we were approached by man who was wearing a uniform and ID and indicated he worked for the Quinta Plaza we were shopping in.

We asked him directions to a store, he gave us a map of the plaza and gave us some advice on shopping in the plaza and then said that he had a certificate for a weeks stay at a nearby resort that he was giving away if we would like to visit it. I asked if it was a timeshare pitch and he said no. We liked our stay in Mexico so much that we figured sure we will look at this resort and scout it out for when we decide to vacation again. Once we entered the Sunset Fishermen's Resort & Spa we were handed to another individual who spoke to us for a few minutes then handed to another individual who stated he will give us a short tour. After the tour they took us to a sales office a gave us the details on how we can buy a four week plan consisting of two rooms that could be split and rented for a profit, and to prove that they good be rented for a profit the sales manager Patricio Muldowney said that he would take/rent three of the four weeks for 5 years for a price of $1700 per week for 5 years totaling over $20,000.

Which would be discounted from the price, and that this property included the full use of an Equestrian center, THE HACIENDA ANDALUCIA, which thay said was not open to the public and full use of a fleet of yachts from the VIP CARIBEEN YACHTING CLUB. It all sounded great, and all we had to pay was $699 fee for the entire week we stayed. So after 4 hours my wife had to leave and attend to the kids, so I figured she liked it and I wanted to also leave so I signed on. BIG MISTAKE, The sales manager wanted a big deposit so I told him I had no funds or credit cards with me so he offered to get me a credit card that would pay the deposit at a lower rate of interest than the mexican banks, so he signed me up for a credit card and within minutes had deducted $15,000 from the credit card as the deposit. I just glanced at the contract, and they told me that the use of the Yachts and Equestrian centers were included in the price but they had to split it up onto another contract for tax purposes but that the price would total out the same, now I've been there for 6 hours and exhausted I wanted t leave so I signed. But when I got home and took a serious look at the contract I found many things had changed and that there were a lot more fees involved in the contract and that I didn't have full use of these centers they were just giving me a discount on the usage of these centers. They also made me sign a waiver that since thay were renting back timeshare weeks from me that I will not be allowed the 5 day contract cancellation period which is allowed by Mexico law, I later discovered this to be illegal.

I wanted out of these lies and decepations, so on the second business day (8/12/06) after signing the contract I sent an e-mail to all the Sunset Groups offices declaring my right to cancel the contract and recieving a full reimbursement. I also sent written notice to each office via registered mail and fedex. As of yet no news, will keep this updated.
