I was in Instructor at the River Oaks Campus, until Wednesday, August 17. I was fired because the students in the Medical Assitant's class MA-180, have received little training, making them competent to be in this class. I was asked to perform certain phlebotomy procedures on the students, to show them the technique.
When I began giving them scenarios to follow, homework, and advanced work to study, I was fired by administration, because the students claimed that I had not taught them procedures to fulfill their academic obligations. Such procedures are Patient Assessment, taking vital signs and blood pressure.
I found that the students are unable to function at the 9th grade level. They do not follow through on assignments for homework, and cannot perform the basic skills That should have been taught by the previous instructor, and was not.
When I refused to perform such procedures on the students such as blood drawing, siting that I had not liability insurance, and such advanced procedures were to be completed during an Externship, I was fired... These students are not ready for Externship, because they have little to no knowlege of anatomy, microbiology, or phlebotomy.
