Irsir On 12/7/10, I bought a $200- amex gift card at a cvs pharmacy. About an hour later, I used the card to by flowers from FTD florist. A couple hours later I found out that the order was declined. I called the amex customer service-they said the card had to be registered first-so we took care of that on the phone. I went back to FTD-again but the card was again declined. So I went back to amex and they said "Sorry, we are holding your money for 7 days, then we will put it back on the card." I explained that I dont want the money - I have to get these flowers delivered. I was able to get a supervisor on the phone who assured me that if FTD called in direct then they could resolve the problem. The next morning FTD loss prevention dept. Called amex direct to resolve the problem. Amex again refused to release the money (my money)! I was shocked when I learned this from the very profesional people at FTD. I had to scramble to get the flowers delivered so I went back to the same cvs and bought a visa vanila card and then processed the order with no problem. I think its important that these stores remove these amex gift cards from their inventory. They are designed to be difficult to use and amex gets to borrow my money for a week. When I bought the card I was in a jam-the last thing on my mind was loaning amex alot of money for a whole week!
