I used them because of a referral. I asked if they were insured and they assured me that they were. I asked, "If you break my stuff you replace it right?" and they said yes. That was it. During the move they broke several pieces of my furniture, well the non-English speaking workers did. And just left me to deal with it. I called the number they left and a rep from ameritex came out to photograph the damage. He took his pictures and said they would call with an estimate. The damage was done to a $350 all mahogany wood futon frame, an antique sewing table, and a few incidentals that I didn't worry about.
When they called back with the estimate they told me that I had broken the sewing table and they were going to give me 45 dollars to fix my smashed futon frame. After a lot of arguing they sent me the $45 check and I started my campaign of negative word of mouth. I was treated very poorly after they got my reservation, and when I called them today to get a physical address of their Dallas office, they would not give it to me and told me to look at my invoice.
All of this was after they gave me my "quote" and didn't bother to tell me that it might change if my load size changed. My quote was for 20 boxes and I wound up packing close to 50. I found out with half my stuff on the truck that they were going to charge me for the extra boxes if I wanted them to move them. I understand this but it would have been valuable information BEFORE they started loading the truck. So I got gouged at the per box price and decided they were on my bad list.
They I found my broken stuff and was really mad. Imagine if they had broken my 45" TV. They "compensate" you by the pound. So don't let them move light, valuable stuff, if you're crazy enough to let them "help" you at all.
