Lost bird

Mr. Belschner called and left a message on my phone at 8:15pm that his bird was lost.
At 7:00am the next day we questioned the 3 employees on the crew as to what may have happened. One employee said that while he was trimming the tree he did see a bird, but did not know where it came from. He did not pay attention to it and continued to go about his work. The other members of the crew did not notice anything as they were occupied with their work.
We called the customer at 8:30am that morning. He was already convinced that our employees took his bird. We told him that as pet owners we understood how he felt and assured him that our employees did not take his bird.
He would not accept this explanation and just kept saying that the employees took his bird.
I have talked to our employees several times. They are extremely disappointed because Mr. Belschner is accusing them of something that they did not do.
