When Horizons relocation consultant, Steve Riggs, came and looked at our belongings to give us an estimate of the move he agreed we had enogh foods for a single shipment. As late as one week prior to the scheduled move date I spoke with their relocation coordinator, Twila brown and again expresse to her that We did not want to be on a shared shipment.
The morning of the scheduled move the driver arrived on foot. He informed us that he was unable to get down our road because of the narrow turns and overhanging trees. This resulted shuttle situation.
The relocation consultant should have been aware of this since he had been to the house on three separate occasions. When we asked him about the road at the onset he said no problem. We were than forced to pay $1,100. More in moving expenses because of the shuttle. Towards the end of the day the driver informed us that there was going to be an overload problem because he already had a partial load, which was contrary to our original agreement of no shared load.
Subsequently, it took 3 loads over a 30 day period to have our personal property moved some 550 miles. When our propery arrived some of it was damaged extensively from either dropping or crushing.in particular, two newly reconditioned antique chairs were severly damaged due to just plain carelessness caused by inexperienced employees. One admitted it was his first day.
We of course will discourage anyone from using Horizon Moving System or any United Van Lines affiliate. United Van Lines showed absolutely no interest in our nightmare move and the President of Horizon would not even return phone calls.
I might add, when we moved to Arizona with more property than when we returned there was no damage whatsoever so we know moves can be made without all the problems we had.
The attitude reflected by Horizon employees was "Too Bad" so sue us. Mistakes can be corrected but when attitudes reflect that a company does not care about its customers its time to find a different moving company. For us, there brochure promising pre-planning-on time delivery - safely delivered goods was not true.
