We chose Merit Moving Systems of Temecula, CA because their salesperson, Kari Stanley, agreed that we would need a shuttle for the final leg of the journey. She wrote on the contract, "Possible shuttle at destination. The destination was Guadalupita, New Mexico.
Arriving in Las Vegas, NM, the driver detached his trailer and drove the tractor part out to Guadalupita, 44 miles away, to look at the condition of the road to determine if he could deliver. He decided that the road was too muddy for either his tractor-trailer rig or a smaller shuttle vehicle. Remember, this had been promised! Though it had snowed the previous day, he was told that the roads dry up quickly but refused to consider this for either next day delivery day or for the day after.
In a phone conversation, the general manager, "Mel, " in response to our request for a shuttle, said, "You can't expect us to eat it." Translation: We, the customers had to "eat it."
Instead, on what was supposed to be our delivery day, the driver dumped our goods at a storage facility in Las Vegas, NM. He had offered the choice of Las Vegas or Santa Fe (at a United Van Lines facility) but Santa Fe was 100 miles away and the driver, Frank Corrales, suggested that it would be cheaper to store the stuff at an independent facility in Las Vegas.
The very next morning, less than 24 hours after our goods were dumped, three local cowboys and two trailers spent the day moving our possessions to our new home. The road was solid as we had predicted.
Ironically, in a report to our credit card company, United Van Lines says that they delivered our goods to Guadalupita, NM, which is not true. The goods were transported to Las Vegas, New Mexico! We spent over $1000 to have our goods delivered to Guadalupita and Merit Moving Systems and United Van Lines will not reimburse us!
Merit Moving Systems made a promise they had no intention of fulfilling when they promised us a shuttle at the end of the move. The driver could have arranged for our goods to be offloaded to shuttle trucks as promised (instead of a storage facility), and delivered the following day with no road problems whatsoever.instead, the driver left and we were on our own, to "Eat it, " as Mel the general manager put it. My husband signed the delivery slip, but indicated in writing that his signature was given "Under Protest."
What is startling is that Merit Moving Systems did not offer any solutions and had no concern whatsoever for our predicament. All they wanted to do was get out and get away.
Do not believe what this moving company promises. They have no intention of keeping them.
