My husband and I bought a double-wide mobile home from Southern Quality Homes in New Iberia, LA in April. We had nothing but problems from the day we purchased our home.
A week after moving in we had gone on vacation. When we returned the kitchen was flooded. Apparently the dishwasher was not connected properly and water gushed all over the floor causing it to swell. We reported all of the damage and expected immediate service to have it fixed so as not to cause more damage.
We also reported anything that was wrong with the house during our walk through after the closing and turned it in to Southern Quality Homes as instructed at the closing. We were told to do this for the first year as we found things that were or went wrong. We followed their instructions.
Needless to say nothing has been fixed as stated. We did get a crew out twice. Both times they left more damage than their was to begin with.
Here is a small list of what is wrong with the house starting from the time it was delivered to Southern Quality.
Ceiling in one bedroom collapsed en route to Southern Quality from Horton Homes. We pointed this out to Southern Quality and they had it repaired prior to the closing, but whoever replaced it dripped liquid nails all over the carpet. The carpet was ruined. They replaced it 6 months later with a carpet (bluish green) that was no where near the color we had in the rest of the house (Midnight Blue).
Floor in the kitchen needed replacing showing us that it was not 3/4" plywood that we had ordered. They replace half of the kitchen floor but did not have the correct tools to do this leaving the floor wobbly and with huge holes and gaps in it. They also did no completely move all of the appliances that were in the kitchen and cut the lenolium rug so that it would no longer lay flat. Not to mention that none of the lenolium was glued to the floor, causing it to move or cut if furniture is moved or someting is dropped on the floor.
Bathroom does not get full pressure because of a kink in the line somewhere, that we cannot get to because there is no access panel. All faucets will break off in your hand because thay are so cheap.
Everything in the house is hardwired so you cannot change anything in the house that is electrical even if it no longer works. We had walls replaced that were damaged from the dishwasher and they were replaced shoddily at best, just cut around the cabinets rather than take the cabinets down to put up the wall.
I could go on and on, about the roof that has leaked non stop until we had it replaced ourselves. The roof is framed up in one by twos! The carpet that needed/needs replaced because the seams ripped clear open and huge holes in the carpet from the fibers come out everytime it is vacuumed.
Like I said I can go on and on. Unfortunately we are not the only ones having trouble. My neighbors who also bought land home packages through Southern Quality are having many of the same problems and then some. Many of us would like to sue but cannot find a lawyer who will take our case. Please don't buy from this company unless you want lots of problems and shoddy work.
