Golden West Homes ripoff poor quality homes mis-representation Oakwood Mobile Home from Golden West

We purchased an Oakwood Mobile Home from Golden West in Houston, Tx. When we purchased the house, we took a plat of the property we were looking at to the Dealer (Golden West) for approval. The home is a large double wide and we wanted to be sure it would fit on the lot. They assured us it would. The day the house was to be moved in, the mover called and informed me that it would not fit and we would have to buy another lot. I called Oakwood, fought with the dealer, filed a complaint with the MFG Housing Assn. And consulted with an atty., all with no help. Bottom line, the house had already been closed and we were committed to a mortgage, so I purchased another lot in hopes of salvaging what had already been invested. Once this was done, they found every excuse you could think of not to set the house.

All of my belongings had to be put in storage, payments on the house and TWO lots began, and my son and I were still having to live with family. This went on for almost a year.

I finally absolutely refused to make anymore payments to the mortgage company until this house was complete and we were moved in.

When we went for our final inspection before moving in, I noticed a water mark all along one wall, there were no screens on the house, the side-by side refrigerator that was in the house had been replaced with a small refrigerator, the carpet had been laid cross knapped, the formica on the kitchen counter tops was coming loose, one complete side of the house was not hooked up to elect, and a wall in the bathroom was at a 45 degree angle. I demanded the roof be repaired, the wall replaced, as well as all of the other problems corrected. I was told the roof leak would be fixed, and that after move in a supervisor would be out for a final walk thru/check list to remedy any other problems. This did not happen.

After months of calls, they sent their contractor out to re-level the house and replace the crooked wall, but nothing else. The roof then developed a small leak, but was not noticed imediately.

NOW the water pours in. My living room ceiling has fallen in, and the ceiling in my bathroom is completely molded. I had my own contractor out, and was told that the house had not been leveled correctly (the blocks were not shimmed up) so the house shifted causing the two sides to pull apart.

One complete side of the house is almost off the blocks and may break apart. I have tried everything possible to get help if for nothing else, to fix the roof that has a 10 year warranty.

I filed an insurance claim and was told this was a MFG defect and it will not be covered. The mortgage company refused to take responsibility, even though they bought the loan and I feel purchased any warranties that went with the house. I have a large mortgage and house that I probably could not give away.
