On 02/21/04 my husband and I purchased a living room set and a complete bedroom set from Value City Furniture in the amount of $2728.78 (paid in full). Our saleman Wayne informed us that our furniture would be delivered free of charge on 03/05/04 because we purchased a night cloud mattress/boxspring (special promotion). The cashier informed us that our delivery date would be Friday 03/05/04, she also stated that on Thursday 03/04/04 a Value City Furniture representative would call us with a four hour delivery window. We did not receive a call.
I called Value City Furniture on the evening of 03/04/04 to confirm our delivery time. I was told by the delivery department that my furniture was scheduled for pick up. (I had already taken off of work and gave my furniture to a needy family.) The person I was speaking to transferred me to a night manager on duty. I was livid, but very professional in expressing my concerns. Unfortunately, I was told by the manager that the trucks were already fully loaded and could not deliver my furniture until Monday 03/08/04. This was unacceptable to us. I had already taken a day off work and we did not have any furniture.
As soon as I hung up with the manager we drove to the store to get our money back. Upon arriving at the store the manager pulled our written invoice which clearly stated in big print FREE DELIVERY. She did acknowledge that this was an error on their part and gave us a 10% merchandise discount on each piece of furniture $262.39 cash refund. We had to pick up the furniture on Friday 03/05/04 between 10am and 8pm. My husband had to leave work early so that we could pick up our furniture.
Friday 03/05/04 we picked up our merchandise at noon it took us two trips. Upon unpacking/inspecting the furniture I discovered that our chair had a tear in the arm. My husband was returning to Value City to get the remainder of our order. I called him to let him know about the damaged chair. While picking up the remainder of our order my husband went into the store to speak to customer service about the chair. He was told that on Tuesday 03/09/04 we could pick up a brand new chair in exchange for the damaged chair. When my husband arrived home with our dressers we noticed that the five drawer dresser had a scratch on the top.
Again, I called Value City to report that the dresser was damaged. No, problem I was told that we could also exhange the dresser when my husband brought the chair back.
Tuesday 03/09/04 my husband loads up the damaged goods to be exchanged by VCF. I receive a call from my husband, VCF did not have the dresser. Yet another mistake by Value City Furniture; our dresser was given to another customer in error. This customer received our dresser totally in error because this did not match their set. I was ready to go back to Value City and let everyone have a piece of my mind. The manager on duty (different than the manager from Thursday) gave my husband a 10% merchandise discount on the dresser $24.99 cash refund. Who knows when we will receive our dresser, my husband was told that we had to wait until VCF received the dresser from the customer who received it in error.
How many errors can Value City Furniture make with one sale?
Three to be exact. I know that everyone makes mistakes but please three within our purchase. I will be placing a call to the Corporate Office in Ohio to express my frustration with Value City Furniture. We did receive two merchanise discounts that is not enough compensation for all of our trouble.
Please stay clear of Value City Furniture.
