Two men came to my house to fix a drip in the bathroom faucet. They said that it would cost more to fix the faucet than to buy a new faucet. As they were recommended by the condo management, I trusted that they were honest about their assessment and told them to buy a new faucet and install it.
A week later, they returned to my house and installed the new faucet. I did not time them, but they were at my house no longer than an hour. I asked them how much it would cost, and they said I would get a bill.
I received the bill about two weeks after the work was completed and was quite shocked. The bill came to $486.68! The faucet was more than double the amount at $182.74 - I saw the same faucet at Home Depot for $90.00. Also, I was charged for two hours of labor for two men - $110.00 x2 x2 = $220.00!
I do not believe two men were needed to change the faucet. Also, it definitely did not take them two hours to do the work.
That said, I should have asked for an estimate before they did the work. I blame myself for this, but I also think they took advantage of me.
