We called this person after our home flooded (70% loss), it was a mistake from the start! He was contracted through us and the insurance company to dry out and put our home back to the condition it was before the flood.
Our home is 2500 square feet with 70% of the home having water damage over 3 levels. He put 4 fans and 1 dehumidifier in our home for 2.5 days. We later had a reputable company give us a report on what it would take to dry that much water out of this area. Their report says a min. Of 4 dehumidifiers and 25 fans for at least 4 days! We were staying in a hotel with our 3 children, Mike (as we knew him, and later found out his name is Vincent) told us to come back and rotate the fans every twelve hours!
He began to replace drywall on the 2nd dry out day. On the 3rd day, a gentleman came in to shoot texture over the drywall. When we came that evening to check the progress, this man had shot POPCORN texture on the ceiling of 2 levels! On the main level of the house, 1/3 of the cieling is knockdown as well as the entire rest of the house! When we called "Mike" to complain, he said it's not that bad but he will come take a look at it the next day.in the meantime, we called and complained to the insurance adjuster who told us it needed to be fixed. When Mike came to the house to check on it, apparently the adjuster had called him to also tell him that he was paid to put knockdown in our home not popcorn, Mike began to yell at me that I am not to have any contact with the insurance company that I need to "shut my mouth" and deal only with him. The next day, the gentleman came back and shot a thicker texture OVER the popcorn and then never 'knocked' it down - you can imagine what that would look like (and it is still like that to this day). The drywall was not even properly put up, our ceiling is 'wavy' all over.
The following day, the painter came in.in preperation to paint, he took a light fixture down near the front door and water came flowing out for 2 DAYS! Meanwhile the painter painted all around it. We provided our adjuster with the paint cans from our recent paint job of our whole home which was Sherwin Williams Duration washable paint.in which the adjuster allowed the proper amount of money to replace the paint with the same kind. Of course, after he painted, he gave us a can of the left over paint which was Kwal standard paint-big price difference as well as quality.
After the paint dried, he came in to cut holes for the new light fixtures. He cut the holes too big for the fixtures, put the fixtures up and then caulked around to cover the too large holes! When we called that evening to complain, he said we were too picky and that he quits! Everything so far that he has touched is of terrible quality and some things not even done (carpet intallation, clean up). We asked for our keys and garage door opener back, he said he was sick and would bring them the next day. I demanded the keys back, he came with his wife and threw them AT me in my garage. That same day, he demanded payment for the entire job. We explained that since he quit and left our home in shambles and unfinished, we needed to contact our insurance adjuster to figure this out. He threatened to call child services on me right then if I did not pay him in full for the job!
About a week later, we recieved paperwork that he filed a lien on our home for the entire amount of our insurance money including our reinbursment for furniture, hotel expense, etc. We had to hire an attorney to fight this battle. Right before trial, we recieved a settlement offer from him and his attorney which was the exact amount we offered to pay him per what our adjuster estimated he did (which was about 1/3 of the amount alloted for the repairs-not our furniture and other reinbersments). We signed the paperwork to settle, gave his attorney a cashiers check the following day for the amount agreed upon.
It is now 1 year later, I ran a check on our property and found that he has not yet filed the paperwork to withdrawl the lien-although you better believe he cashed the settlement check! I contacted his attorney who told me that "Mike" fired him and he no longer represents him. We called "Mike" thinking he just forgot or was unaware that he needed to file the proper papers. Oh no, he proceeded to tell us that we screwed him and still owe him the rest of the money and he will not release the lien! Back to court...
Neighbors, please be aware of whom you allow in your home. We were violated by this man and would not wish this nightmare on any of you. After doing a quick google search on him, he seems to have a great record with our residents, however, if you check his criminal as well as personal record, you will find that he has an extensive history of doing this same thing to many victims. Also, please continue to write reports if he has done this to you as it will surely help the next person he does this to and possibly save another family the sufforing.
