I had a house full of out of town visitors when our kitchen sink clogged. Roto Rooter came out to unclog the drain. I had already disassembled the undersink drain all he had to do was run his machine. I also noticed a broken pipe in our septic lift station when investigating the clog. Roto-Rooter explained of the difficult job at hand and it would have to charge me $608.00 dollars for both. I reluctantly agreed to the charge because of my guests.
To my suprise the fix was very simple. The first tech routed out the sink drain, it took him about 30 minutes, by then a second tech had already repaired a plastic pvc elbow on my septic tank. They were both at my house for under an hour.
When I was handed the bill I complaind slightly that they were charging me for 2 man hours at a rate of $300.00 per hour. (They used 1-2" pvc elbow - a $2.00 item at Home Depot) I was told "Well, you agreed to this price before we started"
I called and talked with a manager and he insisted they were not out of line on their charges, I told him I was expecting to pay $150/hour, but $300/hr. (This was a weekday morning) They used no material and I had alraedy taken apart the drain and found the broken pipe, most of their work was done.
I felt totally ripped off, so I decided to write reviews and send reports to help other unsuspecting customers from using Roto-Rooter.
