My husband and I decided to put a sectional on layaway. When I asked the salesman how the layaway plan worked he said, "put money down, pay on it and then take it home". I asked if there was a time frame and he said no. I paid 250 dollars on it. 6 weeks later my husband is laid off from his job. I called FFO to double check the layaway doubting I would be able to purchase. I was then told that you had 60 days to get it out and if you didnt, they put the furniture back and give you store credit. I talked with the manager and complained I wasnt told that by the salesman and the manager told me there was no certain layaway policy. You can pay what you can pay. If you cant get it out and for example put ten dollars down on it then we give you the ten dollars back and thats that. So I went into the store a couple days later requesting a layaway. The salesman looked at my file and said we cant refund this because you already have 250 dollars towards it and we have held if for two months. I told him I spoke with the manager. The manager came out and said the same thing. I told him my husband lost his job, I dont want it and need my money. He said they have held it for two months (it had been 5 weeks) and only store credit would be issued. We argued for a bit and he refused. I told him I wanted copies of invoices and a copy of the "layaway policy". He then said we dont have one! I said so you have no signed documentation telling people they cant have their money back or to justify why you wont give their money back? He said no, I said I wanted the number of corporate office and his name and I would take him to small claims court. He said okay, gave me info and I left. Ten minutes later he called me on my cell and said I could come in and get a refund and it was no big deal. But only after I threatened him.
