No Exchange, No Refund Policy Not Given to Customers

My husband James and I layed away some furniture and then found out we could not afford to get it. We went back about 7-8 days after and told them and they told us we were too late we had to come back in 5 days (which we did not know). We asked them if we could just get something for the money that we had given them. They told us no. We had to get what we had put on layaway. The reason people put items on layaway is because they don't have money. Well, in the mean time my husband's hours on his job was cut and now our mortgage is behind and we really cannot afford to get the furniture out, we really need the money. I explained this to the salesman and the manager of the store and they would still not give our money back. There is not need in having furnither if we have no place to put it. We want our money back we cannot get the furniture and now do we lose again? This just does not seem to be customer satisfaction.
