I was RAPED by this company!!! I needed to conserve as much money as I possibly could in this last move. Right now I have no money coming in and am not sure when there will be. I was forced out of my home due to a landlord who would not replace a hot water heater that also works as a furnace. I got two estimates Safeway at $340 and K&M Delivery/Moving at $475. Since saving money is an issue for me right now I decided to go with Safeway Van Lines.
The day of the move it was raining. The mover asked if I wanted my sofa and chair wrapped so as not to get dirty and wet. I said yes thinking that it would only be those two items, meanwhile the movers wrapped the ENTIRE house. I was so busy doing my own thing that I did not pay attention as to what was wrapped and what wasn't.
We got over to the new place and they started to unload a couple of items. Just after they started to unload the final bill was given to me - $1,050!!! I was beside myself! How was this even in the remotest of possibilities possible? Of course you have to pay for the move then and there, with credit card, debt card or certified bank check. If you don't have the money, as I didn't (3x the price of the estimate who would) then they take and hold your possessions hostage until you can pay the full charge.
My possessions were to be held on the truck ready to be delivered when I paid the inflated invoice. However, according to the general manager, they needed the truck and had to off load and then reload the truck. This has now caused the price to be hyper-inflated to $1500. The original quote was $340, the second price was $1,050 and the final price is now $1500. I DO NOT have this money, but what else am I supposed to do?
These are extremely volatile economic times. People are losing their jobs and homes left and right. How many of those people are also being financially raped by this company. $340 was a push for me, but $1500 is detrimental!
Use the company at your own peril!!!
