I purchased a heat pump from Sears and paid within 30 days to avoid finance charges. Sears used an independent contractor who showed up in a pickup truck and a trailer with no markings. The two guys could not converse in English and worked all day installing the unit.
They did not connect the heat pump but left the system on auxiliary heat with no air conditioning. My contract called for a heat pump with at least a 3.0 COPP for the Fla Power Rebate of 350.
The salesman called and said the unit installed with a 2.9 COPP and did not quality for the rebate. Sears then sent me a check for 350. But with the installation snafu I wrote back and requested they put a heat pump in that matched what my contract called for.
They will not even respond to my emails or letters. I had also told the salesman I needed a lien release and he said no problem he had done 100's of them. When I tried to get the lien release he said on back of the contract took card of that—yes for purchases under 2500.in refinancing my house, the loan official finally got a lien release letter from the subcontractors (no thanks) to Sears. The Sears official on the phone hung up on me when I asked her to get the lien release.
I am awaiting action from Sears to put the correct heat pump and air conditioner in my house. My next step will be with the Consumer Affairs agencies in FL and in Il. I would say never go with Sears because of their name. This is a rip-off organization.
