We had the company come give an estimate of installing a new heater system to our modular home. The owner and his son came and after looking at the home said we needed "all metal duct work" as the height of the home off the ground was high enough to let animals get to the duct work and tear it up.
After much deliberation we went with their estimate and the company started installing the system in Dec. Of "06". They installed "flexible duct" instead of metal duct work.
After confronting the owner about the bait and switch all he said was " the metal duct work is too expensive to install in a modular building".
After the unit not working right for the first 4 months and numerous calls to them had to file a complaint with Trane as the company had no idea what was wrong with the unit itself. When the Trane tech showed up he hadn't ever seen an updraft heater either.
Well after checking the unit out throughly and finally finding the reason of all the trouble, which was the motherboard, he made some recommendations to the owner of the company who was with him.
To this very day none of his recommendations have been taken care of except replacing the motherboard, and that took place after the heating system was shut down for the summer.
