Management Withholds Apartment Key Forcing $25 Payment to Replace Same Key

Late Monday evening, August 13, I discovered I lost my keys. I called the emergency maintenance beeper number for residents, and asked the maintenance man if anyone had turned in a set of keys. He stated he did not know, and let me know that it would be $25 cash for him to come and issue me a new key. Approximately 40 minutes later, after he disarmed the office alarm, I looked down and saw my keys on the assistant manager's desk. I had left them in my mailbox, which indicates that management knew to whom the keys belonged.

I picked up my keys, and showing them to the maintenance man, asked him again if he knew they were there. He again denied, and as he appeared to prepare to leave, I told him that I still wanted a replacement key since I had to pay $25 — which I would not have had to pay if Appletree management contacted me. The maintenance man brought a new key from another room, which of course I discovered soon after was a key that did not fit my apartment.
