A-1 AFFORDABLE was called to this residence on June 22 at approximately 8 p. M to let them know the air conditioner they put in approximately 2 years ago was not working. The female owner put me thru a series of steps to see if I could get it to work, checking to see if it's manual, check the filters which was changed the day before and the filter was installed properly. None of those steps worked so she said she will be out the next morning between 9-10 am.
I called here at approximately 9:30 am to let who her know I will be out the house for a few minutes, in which she said that's okay she will be running little late.
They arrived at approximately 1010 am, in which I stepped out I returned approximately 10 minutes later.
When I returned, my father was sitting in the den, the female owner was to his left a few feet away, the male repairman was standing front of my father telling him that he needs new system because "everything has gone in reverse. You need to get a electrician in." "It caused the compressor and fan to go bad, since it's a power problem, will not be covered under warranty, "if I take the parts to be replaced they wouldn't do it".
The male repairman told my father that a new system will cost "1900.00" and his fee will be "500.00" the put it in. My told him, he couldn't afford this but try to fix it.
The temperature in the house was a humid 89 degrees, and with my father on dialysis and heart disease my father begged him to fix it. The repairman said what I can do is fix it but it will cost approximately 1300, with 600.00 down and finance at 200.00 per month.
My father agreed to that because of his medical problems, his age and it was on a Friday, fearing could not get anyone over the weekend. He told my father he will be back at 5 pm to fix it. I got a second opionion at work that evening from the electrician at work, and the explaination that the male repairman gave to us, I gave to him and he strongly encouraged us to get second opinion.
I called my father to tell the male repairman do not do work on the house, we will get a second opinion. My son called me at work and told me that my father told the repairman, that we will get a second opinion. According to my son, the repairman went back out to ac unit, and then he came back in and said he put a booster on the system and now the system is working. According to my son, the actual work he performed on the unit was a few minutes.
What I suspected he did he was just put a booster on the ac to get power going again. He charged my elderly mother 350.00 for that work. My mother paid in cash, she thought he was going out to his truck to get a receipt, however he left.
I was at work when this happened. I called the owner from my job, I told her I felt this was an expensive for doing so little work and to charge that amount, then she said we went out there twice, however she quoted me a price on the phone the previous night of approximately 79.00 per service call. They made two service calls, stayed for a total of approximately 50 minutes, mainly at the first visit trying to get my father to buy a new system. I told they should be reported, she then threatened, "I can void you warranty because when we came out there one time your filter was dirty, " in and angry voice.
To take advantage of sick and elderly people like this makes me sick to my stomach. And to call the owner and for her to threatened void my warranty makes me sick.
