My home A/C unit stopped working Monday night (7/9/02) so I called several A/C repair companies Tuesday morning looking for an available repairman. Professional Air had a repair person in the area Tuesday morning (7/10/02) and sent him over.
He inspected my system and came to the conclusion that the entire outside portion of my A/C system needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,900 to $2,100. The Professional Air repairman made several notes on service call invoice. One of these notes reads "checked run cap. Good." I decided to call another A/C repair company for a second opinion.
The second repair person from Watson's Total Air arrived Wednesday morning (7/10/02) to take a look at my A/C system. Watson's was unaware of the fact that another company had already looked at the system. The Watson repairman within minutes diagnosed the problem as the run cap, (a very inexpensive part) replaced the defective part and had the system working perfectly.
The Professional Air repairman was dishonest regarding his diagnosis of the problem. The run cap was not in good condition as the Professional air repairman claimed. I tried several avenues to report this dishonesty to the general public in the Orlando area without much success. Hopefully a few individuals in this area will read this report and will be very careful who they call for A/C repairs. It's now been just under a year since the run cap was replaced and my A/C system is still operating perfectly.
