Authorized service centers do not even stand behind their products

My Sanyo Microwave Oven, which is less than 2 years old and I only use it for heating leftovers and popping popcorn, has started posing a very dangerous situation. The literature that came with the Microwave tells you to never operate the appliance with the door open and tells you how dangerous this can be to your health. Recently my microwave has started to come on by itself when you open the door. At the end of a cook cycle, after the microwave has stopped, it starts itself again when you open the door to remove the food.

I have tried closing the door and pressing the Cancel button, but when you open the door it starts again. I called the Customer Service number listed in my owners manual and told a customer service representative what my oven was doing. She said, You do have a problem. She then told me that I would have to take the oven to one of Sanyos authorized service dealers and since my microwave was no longer under warranty, I would have to pay for parts and labor. She gave me the name and phone number of the only authorized Service Center in Lynchburg which was the only one within 60 miles of my home.

I called Service Center, Inc. The next morning and was greeted by a man who sounded like he was asleep. I told him what my problem was and when he made no comment I asked him what I should do. He said, Ive only been here 6 months, I just run this office. I dont work on stuff.

I asked him who does their service work. He said they have a guy who works on stuff. I asked him could I please speak to the service guy. He said the service guy was not there and he didnt know when he would be in. I asked should I call back later in the day. He said probably not, the service guy gets his assignments early in the morning and would be gone most of the day. I asked him when would be a good time for me to call him. He said he had no idea. He then suggested that I call someone else.

I feel that when I open the door of my microwave and have microwaves flying around my kitchen that this is something that Sanyo would want to correct. I have unplugged my microwave and am no longer using it. I realize that it is no longer under warranty and I could buy a new one for what it would cost to have this one repaired, but I would think Sanyo would not want one of their products posing this kind of danger and just do nothing about it, nor would they want to have authorized service centers who do not even stand behind their products.
