My daughter was forced to buy a 16X80 Anniversary Edition Belmont Mobile Home from Affordable Mobile Homes in Arkadelphia, AR (need to do a consumer complaints on them too for selling junk!) in 1999 by my now ex-husband.
We were on the verge of being homeless, ex's doings, and my mother was nice enough to let us put the MH on her property.
My ex did all the talking and arrangements, daughter picked out the MH and signed papers. She didn't want to sign for 15 years, but ex promised he could make the payments (over $350 monthly payments for 15 years).
We were in the MH for 3 months when daughter had an accident (still not able to work). Not even 2 weeks later, ex walked out on us.
Belmont warranted the MH for 1 year — they were nice and came 3 or 4 times to do repairs, but they never did get the front door fixed - it's a sloppy mess. We had them fix everything we could find in that first year - they had to come back and redo repairs that they didn't do right the first time.
But, there were things it took two women a little bit longer to find. The pipes in one of the bathrooms were loose, so water leaked for over a year before we realized it.
The outside wall on the back side appears to have no insulation. THe drywall is soft and one section has a hole in it from just a wee bit of pressure. Can't see any insulation.
Doors were hung backwards. The faucets were leaking within 6 months. All the trim was a mess, drywall in pieces/so ugly. They replaced some of the trim, but we found more when the year was up.
There were soft spots in the floors, they wouldn't even try to fix. They said it was the seams and nothing wrong. The windows didn't and still don't work properly.
It's hot as an over/cold as a freezer in the LR/DR/Kit area - not enough insultion/walls thin/cracks around doors. Roof has leaked in 5 different spots and ruined the ceiling because they didn't seal seams.
Not to mention the sky-high utility bills trying to heat and cool a tin box.
I could go on and on — we got stuck with a piece of junk, and it's killing us to try to pay for it. We stopped payments once, and tried to move away, but it didn't work out. So now, we're having to pay $400 (added $40 for legal fees) plus we had to borrow money to catch up, so we have to repay that too.
I would love it if Belmont was made to give us a new home, but not one they built. This one won't last 15 years. Roof sounds like it's gonna blow off when the wind blows.
It just makes us sick, literally, that we are stuck with this piece of junk, and it hurts BAD to have to keep paying for it and doing without to do it.
Don't ever buy anything from Belmont! They don't make anything that is worth anyones hard earned money.
