Unfortunately I have read some of the other reports filed here and they sound so familiar.
Wheeling, IL was had severe hail damage in our sunroof was broken and an inspection by our Insurance company concluded that our roof was very damaged, as well as the siding on our house. So those 3 problems needed to be fixed. I should have done more research on NRS, inc before we hired them, but I hadn't heard anything bad about them, and the representative from NRS, Terri, seemed knowledgable enough, and after all we had a huge opening in our roof that needed to be fixed pronto (!) so we decided to have the work done with National Restoration SPecialists, Inc.
We signed over the first check we got from our insurance over to them in August. The did not start work until December, which after reading some of the other complaints I guess we were lucky in a sense. But keep in mind they orignally told me they would start quickly, and I had to call them repeatedly, and every time I called I got the same run around - "Oh, they should be able to start next week", this was the common line from them. Not to mention we had to live with a broken sun roof for that time. Then all of the sudden when my husband and I arrived home from Christmas shopping they had started working on the roof. We were surprized.
But they didn't start working on the siding until spring 2004. Which like someone else mentioned was nearly a year from when the damage occured. And, like someone else mentioned we had stacks of siding and building materials in our driveway for months! We really couldn't use our driveway for all of that time. It was a mess.
And, lastly, the work they did was horrible. We have a porch with an over-hanging roof. When we originally picked the color of the roof (brown) they didn't tell us that the roof over the porch would have to be done using different roofing shingles (actually it ended up being a rool-roofing), so our roof ended up being two shades of brown, I really don't like it and if they would have told me that was going to be the case I would have picked a different color that would match both parts of the roof. But I suspect the reprentative didn't know enough about what he was doing to notice the problem until they started working on the roof.
But here's the worse part!
Our sun roof started leaking a few months ago. And there are other smaller areas of the roof that are showing signs of leaking also. We noticed a few months ago that there is a water-logging spot, about 3 inches wide on the ceiling of our kitchen. The roof is clearly leaking there - and was not leaking at all with our old roof.
I tried to contact them, but the original Northbrook office was closed only a few months after the work was done. I was lucky enough to reach someone at the Peoria office at that time, and after calling several times the lady answering the phone told me she had my number and that a roofer would call me to talk about the situation. Of course that never happened, and a few weeks later when I tried to call back that office was no longer opened either. I have tried all other numbers for all of the other locations and I can't find a single number that is connected. Their website is no longer valid either.
Apart from the sunroof, which anyone could have fixed, the roof is in much worse shape than it was before they worked on it. And, overall the work they did is shotty looking. I think they even messed up the wiring for the lights that were on the side of my garage.
Don't hire this company.
As for us, we are going to contact our insurance company to get their advice on the situation, to start with. And I would like to find someone from the IL Attorney Generals office, because I am sure they have become aware of this company.
