We have had Insurance with American Family American Modern Insurance since we bought our home back in 1996.
We had to place a claim in because we had high winds and a tornado come thru the area we live in. I called to make a claim and they told me to get a written receipts from different companies on what the cost will be to have our home fixed again.
The roof and gutters and some of the siding and a shed and fence had been damaged. And the roof leaks now so we had to have this also added.
We only put in a claim for the roof, gutters, and siding to be fixed and also for the leaking roof which is over our bed. We should have claimed everything.
Several roofing companies came out and said that we needed a new roof on our home that it was damaged. They gave us a written cost of what it will cost to repair the roof. The roof would cost around $1,900 for a nail over and $2,400 for a roof tear off and replaced. So they had 2 different figures.
We would have even went with the roof nail over if had to be just to have the roof fixed.
But not a patch job.
We also had the gutters written repair cost and the siding cost AND the ceiling damage from the roof leak.
We sent the written cost receipts to American Family American Modern.
After about 2 months of waiting and calling them they sent us 2 checks.
1 was for the cost of the roof repair to patch the roof only of a cost of about $600.00 and the other check was suppose to be for siding, gutters and the leaking ceiling and this check was for about $290.00.
A total of around $890.00 or $920,00 or so.
Let's be for real here what a joke right? Not!
I gave American Family a telephone call and the man was real rude and said we are not paying for a new roof but we will pay for a patch job which is a few packs of shingles and labor to put them on.
A patch job? The whole dam roof is damaged.
The roof is leaking over my bed and I to sleep with electric machines on me at night for health reasons.
They will not change their amount of cost at all.
The gutters will cost more then this to have replaced and the siding isn't cheap.
This has been since Oct 24th and we have not settled this to date.
So fed up as we are we had to hire an attorney and we have to go to court this November.
I heard that a lot of Insurance companies are doing this and I don't see how they can get by with it. We have to pay for Insurance in case things like this happen we thought we would be covered. Yes covered as they claimed but they want to do patch jobs.
I didn't buy a used home I bought a new home and why should anyone settle for a patch job when it is stated that it needs a whole new roof?
So my roof still leaks which we had to cover with tarps and use chalking to help with the leak. My siding is still in need of repairs and water is getting in the cracks of the wood and my gutters are still half missing.
My home is falling apart because they refused to paid to have the work done right and refused to pay for what is stated is needing to be done.
American Family, American Modern shame on you and your cheating cheap payoffs.
I want everyone to know that if you need Insurance think twice before you go thru this company or else you may end up for patch jobs and not enough to cover the price of needed repairs.
Everyone else who had a different Insurance companies had their roofs and repairs done long ago like within weeks of their claims but then they didn't have American Family, American Modern.
We have been fools to pay this company all of this money to be protected just to find out they are a scam and rip offs.
I want everyone to know that american family, american modern is nothing but pure rip offs...!!!
