Beware of contractor Jay Koons. He is a dishonest, lying dirtbag. We hired him for several remodeling/repair projects for our home. Jay had a group of guys who trusted him as we did. They were good workers. We paid Jay the first deposit so the work could be started-everything was moving along nicely.
Then jay calls and asks if we could advance him 1,000.00 because he took a bad check from someone else-wrote payroll off of it-and now things were in chaos. No problem-I told him we would help any way we could (Jay claimed to be a Christian man, and being christians ourselves, we believed him).
Now-his workers did not have the proper tools-they didn't have drywall compound, sandpaper-trowels. So my husband takes them to Home depot and buys what they need. Jay says keep track of the costs so he can make adjustments to what we will owe at the end. As things are moving along-he has more payroll trouble because of the bad check. We agree to give him the final balance so that the job can be finished.
Now we are approaching Christmas. Our bathroom is almost done-we still don't have our carpet for the family room-and all the laminate floor (890sq ft) needs the trim work. Then we find out that even though we have given Jay the entire amount-he has not paid his men. Jay called in january to tell us he was having bypass surgery. I told him to let us know when he would be back on his feet. He called one more time to tell us he was ok and would be back on the job.
We have called his home repeatedly only to be told "jay isn't here but I will have him call you" or "he just went out for some cigarettes" (after bypass surgery, yeah right!) He refuses to return our calls and he basically took our money and ran.
We have no carpet-no trim work for our flooring-no kitchen countertops he promised to do and no extra money to pay another person to finish the job. This guys is a con-artist and a thief. People of pennsylvania: Avoid this man like the plague! He will cheat you. And unless Jay has filed for bankruptcy-WE WILL SEE HIM IN COURT!
