I bought an HP Pavillion Notebook PC about 3 years ago. The cd/dvd burner failed and I was told to send my PC in for repair. I did and got it back within 10 days. The cd/dvd burner lasted just days after the warranty ran out. I am now told by HP the relacement unit costs $162. I have had 2 of these thing fail on me in a little over a year. Now I am supposed to buy a 3rd at about about 4 times the price of an internal optical drive produced by a competitor. I can find no competitor that makes a drive that has the screwhole for securing it to the computer. Hp you suck. I will never buy another HP computer product. I am not convinced the drive is bad. The loading mechinism works and I can hear the drive whirring away when I load a DVD. The computer does not see the drive. I did everything the tech informed me to do (by email). It seemed to me the tech was awfully anxious to sell me an external drive that was on sale. I believe it is a s/w problem. I will probably never know.
