Optimum billing, cancellation and complaints: what the company's own pages say (checked October 18, 2026)

Optimum's pages, opened on October 18, 2026, give the routes below. Plan terms, promotional prices and fees depend on your service, address and agreement, and the current Terms of Service and your own bill govern.

Contact. The Contact Us page shows 833-665-3315 and chat for existing customers ("we're here for you 24/7") and 844-714-5313 for new customers. Optimum Mobile has its own help center at support.optimummobile.com.

Cancelling. The Residential General Terms and Conditions of Service (effective October 24, 2024) say the subscription "automatically renews thereafter on a monthly basis ... until cancelled by you", that "PAYMENTS ARE NONREFUNDABLE AND THERE ARE NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS FOR PARTIALLY USED SUBSCRIPTION PERIOD(S)", and that cancellation "will be effective at the end of the then-current billing period". They also list possible fees for "early termination, reconnection and service calls" and refer to a Schedule of Fees at optimum.net/pricing-packages, which this page did not open. Ask for a cancellation confirmation number and keep the date and time of the call or chat.

Disputing a charge. Write down each charge, its date and what you were told when you ordered (many archived complaints below concern promotions, rebates and fees). Ask the company in writing, then keep copies. The Terms also contain an arbitration clause ("binding arbitration on an individual basis", with a small-claims carve-out) and a Notice of Dispute step before arbitration; the Terms say the opt-out does not apply to an existing subscriber who "PREVIOUSLY ENTERED INTO AN ARBITRATION AGREEMENT WITH OPTIMUM OR A PREDECESSOR COMPANY", and that a new subscriber who does not wish to be bound "MUST NOTIFY OPTIMUM IN WRITING WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE OPENING OF YOUR OPTIMUM ACCOUNT", by mail to "OPTIMUM SHARED SERVICES, 1111 STEWART AVE BETHPAGE, NY 11714, ATTN: ARBITRATION" (the Terms also give an arbitration email address). Read the full clause in the current Terms before relying on any route.

Regulators. The FCC accepts informal complaints about internet and TV service at fcc.gov/complaints or 1-888-225-5322, and its guide says a provider served with a complaint must respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your state attorney general; the Texas Attorney General's page links a complaint form for Texas residents, and Connecticut Attorney General press releases list consumer inquiries at 860-808-5318.

State attorney general actions involving Optimum and Suddenlink

The actions below come from the agencies' or BBB's own pages or from the news report named. They are settlements or allegations, not findings against the company unless a source says so.

Texas (December 22, 2023). The Texas Attorney General announced an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance with CSC Holdings, LLC, which it calls the operating subsidiary of Altice USA, Inc. The release says Texas residents reported "suspect billing practices, slow internet speed, frequent outages, poor customer service, and misleading promotions and sales practices", and that CSC Holdings "has agreed to pay $350,000 to the State of Texas", address deficiencies in customer service and resolve eligible consumer complaints filed between 2016 and ninety days after entry of the settlement through a restitution program. This page did not open the AVC text, so the company's stated position in it is not reproduced here.

West Virginia (January 10, 2025). BBB's Government Action alert says: "On Jan. 10, 2025, the West Virginia Attorney General announced that the office has reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Altice USA". The Attorney General's own release was not located on ago.wv.gov (a search for "Altice" there returned no matching result on October 18, 2026), so the figures below are media reports, not the Attorney General's statement. WV MetroNews (January 11, 2025) reports an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance valued at $119.5 million, which it breaks down as $75 million of investments in West Virginia since 2021 (past spending, not a payment), $40 million of investments for 2025-2027, $4 million in consumer credits and a $500,000 payment to the state, and says Altice did not admit violating the state's Consumer Credit and Protection Act. The West Virginia Press Association reports that current residential customers in the categories listed in the Assurance receive account credits of $25 each, that "Former customers can submit a claim that will be evaluated for eligibility for a cash refund", and that the company will build out its network so residential customers can obtain 1 Gig download speeds, with completion by the end of December 2027. Both reports count more than 2,300 complaints to the Attorney General's office from 2020 to 2023. West Virginia customers should check the Assurance and their own account for eligibility.

Connecticut (May 13, 2024 and November 6, 2025, pending). See the litigation section: the Connecticut Attorney General sued over the Network Enhancement Fee and advertising disclosures. Separately, a February 6, 2025 release says the attorneys general of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey demanded automatic refunds for Optimum customers who lost access to MSG Networks channels during a carriage dispute ("owed immediate refunds without hassle", in the Connecticut Attorney General's words); the release does not say whether Optimum agreed.

Who runs Optimum: Optimum Communications, Inc. (formerly Altice USA)

Optimum is the consumer brand of Optimum Communications, Inc., which changed its name from Altice USA, Inc. in November 2025; its shares trade on the NYSE as OPTU (formerly ATUS until November 19, 2025). Its Form 10-K for 2025 (filed February 13, 2026) says the parent "does not conduct any business operations of our own" and that the company markets its services "under the Optimum brand", delivering broadband, video, telephony and mobile services to approximately 4.3 million residential and business customers across 21 states as of December 31, 2025. On its own About page the company says it serves "approximately 4.4 million customers". The filing describes the company as controlled by Patrick Drahi through Next Alt S.a r.l. Its address is 1 Court Square West, Long Island City, New York.

Predecessor names. Per the 10-K, an Altice subsidiary acquired Cequel Corporation on December 21, 2015 (the Suddenlink cable operator; Cequel was contributed to the company on June 9, 2016), and the company acquired Cablevision Systems Corporation on June 21, 2016. The Texas Attorney General says the Suddenlink brand was used in Texas until August 2022 and was then rebranded Optimum. The 2003-2013 complaints archived on this site use the names Cablevision, Optimum Online and Suddenlink, which were then separate operators; they are linked here because those names are now part of the Optimum business, not because the Optimum brand existed under that name at the time.

Operating entity. The Texas Attorney General's release calls CSC Holdings, LLC "the operating subsidiary of the telecommunications company Altice USA, Inc."; the 10-K, which says the parent is a holding company, also presents statements for CSC Holdings, LLC and subsidiaries alongside those of Optimum Communications, Inc. Optimum Lightpath and Altice Mobile appear among the alternate names on BBB's profile.

Financial disclosures (company filings, opened October 18, 2026). In an 8-K filed September 21, 2026 (Item 4.02) the company said its financial statements for fiscal 2025 and the quarters ended September 30, 2025, March 31, 2026 and June 30, 2026 should no longer be relied upon and that it intends to restate them for non-cash deferred tax benefits, adding that the restatement will not affect previously reported cash balances, revenues, capital expenditures, cash flows, EBITDA or loss before income taxes. The Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 states that the company's debt maturities, including $4,122,500 principal amount maturing in April 2027 (figures in thousands), "raise substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern". In an 8-K of August 14, 2026 the company said it received an NYSE notice on August 13, 2026 under Section 802.01C because its average closing share price was below $1.00 over 30 trading days; the notice has no immediate effect on the listing and gives six months to regain compliance. These are the company's own disclosures and are not a statement about service. Customer counts and other 10-K figures above predate the restatement notice.

Earlier data incident. The California Attorney General's data breach listing includes notification samples (an employee notice and a customer notice) from Altice USA, Inc. with a breach date of November 4, 2019.

Lawsuits and state court actions

State of Connecticut v. CSC Holdings, LLC (pending). On May 13, 2024 Connecticut Attorney General William Tong announced a suit under the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act over a Network Enhancement Fee that rose from $2.50 to $6.00 a month, advertised speed limits in small print, and Spanish-language advertisements with English-only disclosures; that release says the suit seeks restitution for consumers as well as penalties to the state. On November 6, 2025 the Attorney General announced an expanded (substitute) complaint, dated October 30, 2025, in Docket No. X06-UWY-CV24-6078705-S (Complex Litigation Docket, Waterbury), alleging that the company collected at least $39.1 million through the fee since at least January 2019. The release also cites an August 2019 advertisement offering a "price for life" ("Get the lifetime deal that actually lasts a lifetime") and alleges the price did not include the fee. Westfair Communications reported on September 23, 2026 that a Waterbury Superior Court judge denied on September 9, 2026 a motion by CSC Holdings LLC to strike the state's requests for civil penalties and disgorgement; the company, as reported, argues subscribers received a benefit because some fee revenue funded network work. These are the State's allegations; the Connecticut court docket itself was not accessible on October 18, 2026 and no ruling on the merits is reported.

Seale et al. v. Altice USA, Inc. et al. (New Jersey, settlement notice). The court-authorized notice for Docket No. MER-L-618-23 (Superior Court of New Jersey, Mercer County) described a proposed class settlement for Optimum and Suddenlink customers who paid a Network Enhancement Fee, Network Access Surcharge or certain TV fees between July 27, 2018 and May 5, 2023, a fund of "up to $15,000,000", payments of $10.00 to $27.50, a claim deadline of September 5, 2023 and a fairness hearing set for October 13, 2023. The notice says the defendants "deny any liability or wrongdoing". Top Class Actions, a secondary source, reports that the court granted final approval on October 13, 2023 and that readers reported payouts of up to $20 as of April 2024; this page did not locate the order itself (the New Jersey docket was not accessible) and the settlement website named in the notice did not resolve on October 18, 2026.

Warner Records et al. v. Altice USA, Inc. et al. (copyright, E.D. Texas, dismissed). The 10-K says Warner Records Inc., Sony Music Publishing (US) LLC and other copyright holders sued on December 7, 2023, alleging subscribers infringed over 10,700 works and seeking to hold the company liable for contributory and vicarious infringement, and that the court stayed the case on July 15, 2025 pending the Supreme Court's decision in Cox Communications v. Sony Music. The CourtListener docket (No. 2:23-cv-00576) shows a joint stipulation of dismissal under Rule 41(a)(1)(A)(ii) filed April 22, 2026 and an order dismissing the case signed by Judge Rodney Gilstrap on April 28, 2026 (entered April 29, 2026). The docket does not state any settlement terms, and the Q2 2026 Form 10-Q no longer lists the matter.

Stockholder class action. The Q2 2026 Form 10-Q says that on June 9, 2026 a stockholder, Paul Berger as trustee, filed a putative class action against Patrick Drahi, other directors and officers, Next Alt S.a.r.l., Next Partner, L.P. and Optimum Communications, Inc. in connection with the company's recently disclosed restructuring transactions, a Private Exchange Transaction and a Tender Offer. It concerns investors, not service.
