Provision in Utah State law that gives 30 day window? Someone told me they thought this was law.
October went and looked at a Grand Jeep Cherokee at Diamond Auto Sales. Spoke with the mechanic and he told me he had gone over it with a fine tooth comb and that everything was in working order and great condition. October 2 I gave them a security deposit for the vehicle - asked them if they could hold it for a month because I wouldn't be able to pay for it until the end of the month... Yes... Not a problem... Called a couple of times to let them know my money situation and each time verified they would hold it for me.
Went to pick the jeep up at the end of the month and they had jacked the price up from $5000 to $5700. They said that when they moved it from point A to point Z - they found out the heater wasn't working. Therefore, they installed a new heater core and wanted me to pay for it. I shopped around for another vehicle and decided this jeep was the one I wanted. Called them and asked if they'd split the differenct. They said yes and so I paid $5300 cash.
Drove jeep off lot and within a day I noticed heater wasn't working properly. Took almost 30 min to get warm. Each time I turned heater on - would take an exceptionally long period to heat. Friday morning after trying to start jeep, my landlord was able to get it going. Was running a little rough. Called Troy about heater and he told me nothing he could do about it because his mechanic wouldn't be in until Tues.
Drove to Whole Foods in Park City... Stalled while trying to park. Got it going again. Returning to vehicle after 10 minutes, car would not start at all - tried to turn over but would not engage. Let car sit for approx an hour - started and enroute to home in Jeremy Ranch, jeep started sputtering and running rough while on freeway. Light came on to check gauges. Temp gauge was getting hot and immediately pulled into gas station. Steam coming from radiator - let cool down and checked for water and anti-freez - appeared full but added a little bit to top off.
Started home - pulled off road again to let cool down. Got home and parked it in driveway. This was around 8:00 pm. First thing in morning called and spoke with Troy. He was sympathetic and told me his mechanic wouldn't be in until Monday but that he would try and get in touch with someone to come and look at it. Either way - he would return my call in 30 min to update me. I waited over an hour and called him back - to no avail.
Spoke with a different salesperson who was extremely rude. He said Troy was in the car lot brushing snow off cars and was put out that I asked him to get Troy so I could talk with him. Came back in from outside with the answer that Troy said he'd left a message with his mechanic and hadn't heard from him. The sales person was complaining that he was in tenny runners and his feet got wet and cold... I asked to get a loaner from them so I could get to my jobs over the weekend. He laughed and said 'NO' - they don't give out loaners - EVER. I then asked him to have Troy call me as soon as he got back in from outside. Said he would do so. Again... Did not hear from him.
Towed my new jeep to them on Monday because they said they'd look into the problem and get me back on the road... I called them and Troy told me the mechanic was at lunch and he'd phone me within the hour. Didn't hear from him. Called him back - he told me the mechanic said there was no antifreeze/water in the radiator - odd - because we tried to fill it up and wouldn't take hardly anything we put into it. Again - told me he would call me within the hour. I phoned a few times with no answer. Didn't hear from him.
Called the next morning and spoke with Shane - his brother. Explained the situation again - expressed how frustrated I was because I needed a vehicle to get to work and I felt I was being jerked around because of being a woman. At that time, he told me I had a personality problem and that they would probably just have me get my jeep off their lot. A few minutes later - Troy called me and told me "You blew it - Come and pick up your jeep" You have a personality problem...
Had a tow truck retrieve jeep and take to a different mechanic. It went thru a diagnostic and was told the head gasket needed replacing... And that it never should have passed emmissions. He told me to take jeep back to them and get my money back - that jeep was in really bad shape - and that it was in this condition when they sold it to me.
