I took my van for repair on August 13. It was leaking oil and the brake was making vibration whenever I stepped on the brake.
One of the workers told me I needed to replace the gasket, PCV valve, and the brake rotor. I asked him to give me an estimate on all the parts. He checked his computer and said all together it would cost me close to $300.00 (plus tax) just for the parts. He asked me if I want to do the spark plugs too since they had to take out the engine anyway so they won't charge me extra for the labor. So, I asked him to give me an estimate on the labor fee and he said it would be around $300.00 (plus tax). I decided to go ahead and got the gasket, PCV valve, the brake rotor and the spark plugs done all together for the price he told me ~ estimate $550.00 to $600.00.
The day when I went to pick up my van I was surprised to find that the price has changed to $941.17. No one from their office had called me and told me that they decided to charge me $300.00 to $400.00 more. I would never have agreed upon on that price. It was way too much for me but I didn't want to argue with him at his shop on my own so I paid him with my credit card. I have no job with four kids by myself if I know they are going to charge that much I would call around and find another auto shop to do the work.
The funny thing is that the owner told me after they took my engine out they noticed that my timing belt need to be replaced too. He said I should consider changing the water pump along with the timing belt very soon. I asked him how much it will cost me for doing that. He said it will be around the same $800.00 to $900.00 and he can do it next week. I thought to myself I got to come back next week just to pay you to take out my engine again so you can make double money on this. It doesn't sound right to me. Shouldn't he called me and let me know about that before he put the engine back in the van?
I just want to let the other be aware of that place. Be careful. I know I will never bring my van back to them again!
