Well add another bitter customer. Failed engine Jasper, Indiana

Well, I hope this thread doesnt become filled up with Jasper employees like the other one on this site. Of course employees are going to defend the company. My story: Several years ago I paid thousands for a mid custom engine. A 350 ci Chevy. It was bored, had special pistons, wolverine cam, head work, etc. I ordered it not to be a high horsepower race unit, but a better than stock build to last a long time.

It arrived and I hired a garage to install it. Right away they had troubles, After playing with it, they discovered a bolt end had been broken off en a block hole where the bellhousing was supposed to bolt on. The heads andor the block had been shaved or milled in some way and the intake manifold wouldnt fit. They had to use a huge amount of silicone sealer to keep it from leaking oil.

The engine arrived dirty! They had a hard time getting it started and had to do something to the timing chain and sprocket to get it timed correctly. It cost me over $500 extra labor for all this. Did I complain to Jasper? No, I just bent over, which was my own fault but I didnt have time to send the engine back, as I had started a new job and was in a great hurry.

It smoked and used oil immediately. Not a lot&just a bit. The chevy dealer said it looked like bad valve stem guides? Then at 1,000 several of the aftermarket high cost lifters went bad! I had to take it to chevy who could only put stock chevy lifters back in it. Jasper did pay for it though but it cost me 4 days work on my new job. It has always run well but seems out of balance somehow and shakes a bit.

Timing is perfect and they cant figure out the shaking. It uses 1 to 1 1/2 quarts of oil between each change and I have a hard time getting it to pass our state air quality checks to renew the license. So two months ago at only 38,000 miles, the head gasket blew, causing a hydrolocked cylinder. I pulled a spark plug and the water spewed out. It had water in the oil too. The truck now sets in my driveway becasue garages want over a thousand to change the gaskets.

I tried emailing Jasper but they have no record of my purchase unless I give them the original receipt, which was lost in a flood. I asked for advice, I needed to know if the head gaskets were special, if the headbolts were aftermarket, if I needed to buy new ones, etc. I didnt want to replace one side with a different compression gasket. They said they could not find my blocks info and for advice only said I should refer to an original chevy manual. Thanks. Thanks for almost $1700 in labor, days missed pay, and now a dead truck in my driveway at only 38,000 miles.
