My 02' Chrysler PT Cruiser threw a rod roughly 4 months ago due to oil pressure problems. The engine was repaired with a new block but the warranty is through SRS Motor Supply in Dallas. The warranty covers 12,000 miles/12 months on repairing the engine if something goes wrong.
Well, about a month ago the enging started having oil pressure problems AGAIN and began ticking while driving it 500 miles up the road as I was moving out of state. Totally unexpected as there were no signs of anything wrong prior to that. I had to tow the car back 500 miles because they wouldn't work with me on having it repaired where I now live. Add $300 for diesel for towing it back, anxiety due to tire problems and a blow out and your nerves are shot!
The engine was taken out and sent over to them last week. This week I get a call from my mechanic saying SRS claims the engine had over heated somehow (even though my mechanic has proof there was no over heating damage. The oil he drained isn't burnt which he still has as proof, coolant was full, and no foul odors from the engine), and there was absolutely no indication on my part of any over heating while I drove it. I drive class 8 commercial vehicles. I'm not stupid about engines or anything mechanical.
SRS wants $800 freakin' dollars to fix the engine for something that never happened to it, simply because they claim the warranty doesn't cover over heating. This is an oil pressure problem and the engine is now messed up because of it. Not over heating. Here I am, 500 miles away, having to work and do what I can without a vehicle, while they sit on that vehicle claiming they want $800 for some BS, all because they'd lose out on a couple of bucks if they went strictly by the warranty. I just paid that car off. It's mine. I need it back pronto and these people are pulling some sort of game to make some.
I DO NOT recommend doing business through SRS at all. They do not seem to want to honor their warranties. An attorney will be sought out, just as my mechanic has suggested, if the problem does not get corrected SOON!
