I purchased a used engine for my 1990 BMW 325i from ASAO. They quoted a price, told me the engine I would get had 55,000 miles and had come from Japan.
They suggested that I purchase the six month extended warranty for $159 which covered any problem with the engine and $37 per hour rate for replacement labor.
The opinion of the mechanic who installed the engine, was that although it had been painted, it appeared to have manymore than the quoted number of miles. He installed it exactly as instructed.
Three months later, I had to take the car back because the engine was not idling well. While I spent $800 on miscellaneous improvements, I was told that the oil pan had a significant leak and their experience with installing used engines was that this problem was covered under extended warranties. When I called ASAP, I was given a list of items not covered by the warranty, which included oil leaks, valves, gaskets, etc. Of course, this list of "not covered" items was not presented when I purchased the engine and the warranty.
As a matter of fact, the specific claim was that the warranty covered any problems with the used motor for six full months. On my invoice it states that it covers z'R & R or a defective engine".
I wish that I had seen these comments on ASAP prior to purchasing this engine and worthless warranty.
